Changes Coming to WomenArts Funding Newsletters

WomenArts Joins Forces with Powerful Feminist Arts Groups

WomenArts is delighted to announce that we will be joining forces with the Women in Arts and Media (WAM) Coalition and the League of Professional Theatre Women to provide our free monthly Theatre and Film/Video Funding Newsletters to their members as well as to our own 7,200 subscribers.

WAM CoalitionOver the next two months, WomenArts will be transferring the production of our funding newsletters to our colleagues at these two organizations. This collaboration will mean that the members of all three organizations will have easy access to information about funding, festivals, residencies, and other opportunities for women in theatre, film, and video.  The transfer will also free up the WomenArts staff to focus on Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day and our other arts advocacy work.

WomenArts is proud to be working with two powerful organizations that are doing such terrific work to advance women artists.

League of Professional Theater Women LogoThe League of Professional Theatre Women is an advocacy organization founded in 1981 and dedicated to reinforcing positive images of women, promoting their visibility, and increasing their opportunities in American professional theatre.  They host a variety of networking and educational events.  The League was the founding member of the WAM Coalition and they have collaborated with WomenArts on two SWAN events – a panel discussion with Broadway designers and directors at Lincoln Center Library and a play reading/panel discussion about women of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) at Cherry Lane Theatre.

The WAM Coalition was established in 1989 to build communication among women working in professional performing arts and media organizations.  It is composed of women in the key artist unions for theatre, film, and television – Actors’ Equity Association, Dramatists Guild, Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and Writers Guild of America, as well as members of the League of Professional Theater Women and New York Women in Film and Television.  WomenArts has been an affiliate member of the coalition for many years, along with Women Make Movies, the Women’s Media Center, and several other groups.

Shellen Lubin, a multi-talented artist who is the Co-President of the WAM Coalition and the Co-Secretary of the League of Professional Theatre Women, will be coordinating the creation of the newsletters during July and August.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the transition, the July funding newsletters will be issued during the week of July 8th instead of on July 1.
