Announcing the SWAN Day Song and Photo Contests!

We had so many great entries in our SWAN Day Song Contest and Photo Contest last year that we have decided to do them again!  If you have songs or photos that meet this year’s guidelines, be sure to send them in.  You would win up to $1,000 in the Song Contest and $500 in the Photo Contest!

The Second Annual SWAN Day Song Contest

Lydiah Dola

Lydiah Dola of SWAN Day Kenya won First Prize in the 2017 SWAN Day Song Contest

WomenArts is now accepting submissions for our second annual SWAN Day Song Contest!  We are looking for inspiring songs about women that can be sung at SWAN Day events and at other community gatherings. The top prize is $1,000, the second prize is $500, and we will create other prizes depending on the entries we receive.   The winning songs will be featured in the WomenArts Blog, newsletters and social media.

Content of the Song:  Since the goal of Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day is to celebrate the power and diversity of women’s creativity, you will have the best chance of winning the top prize if your song is:

  • about women artists;  or
  • about the process of creating art in any medium (music, dance, film, visual arts, etc.); or
  • about Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day.

We also will consider excellent original songs that directly address women’s issues (such as body image, reproductive rights, or equal pay) or songs about women addressing important social issues (such as racism, immigration, the environment, or peace).  We occasionally give small awards to songs just because we love them, even if they do not fit our guidelines exactly.

Please submit your song by midnight on Monday, April 30, 2018. We plan to announce the winners in May 2018.

The Second Annual SWAN Day Photo Contest

Jamie Bilgo Bruchman won first prize in the 2017 SWAN Photo Contest with this picture of Wendy Diedrich holding a swan by Isabelle Spike.

WomenArts is looking for great photos of people showing their SWAN spirit.  If you have one or you are able to take one at a SWAN event next month, you could win up to $500 in our SWAN Day Photo Contest!

Your photo must have people in it, and it must include a woman artist and/or show people who are honoring women artists by celebrating Support Women Artists Now Day or in some other way.  Be sure to check out our full contest guidelines to make sure your photo will qualify.

If you want to enter, all you have to do is upload your photos to Facebook, Flickr or some other online service, and then use our handy SWAN Photo Submission Form to send us the links.

You can enter up to 4 photos.  The deadline is midnight on April 30, 2018 to give you plenty of time to send in the photos from your SWAN event.  The winners will be announced in May 2018.
