We are very excited to announce that we have just installed new software for our Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day Calendar.  We have listened to your feedback about our former calendar, and we have included several new features to make it easier for you to post your SWAN events.

Import your Facebook Events
If you have created a Facebook event page for your SWAN event, we can import it for you and you won’t have to log in, register, or fill in our Add An Event form. Just use our Facebook Events form to send us the link to your Facebook event page.

Better Search Features
The new calendar has an easy-to-use search bar at the top of the main page. You can search for events by date, keyword or location.  Also, if you click the box at the right end of the search bar, you can change the display mode from “Photo” to “List”, “Day” or “Map”.

Login with your Email Address
You won’t have to worry about remembering your user name.  Once you have registered, you will have the option of logging in with a user name or your email address, whichever you prefer.

Improved Event Submission Form

The new form for adding your events has a better text editor. If you need to enter several events, you can save information about yourself and your venues so that you can automatically re-enter them.

A Guide to Posting Your Event

You are welcome to post any kind of arts or educational event that features women artists, including online events and online fundraising campaigns for women-led arts projects. The idea is to show the world the full power and diversity of women’s creativity.

You will always be able to find the SWAN Day Calendar through the SWAN drop-down menu at the top of every page on our website. When you are looking at the main calendar page, you will see three gray buttons in the top right section – Facebook Events, Add/Edit Events, and Help.

Facebook Events – If you want us to import your Facebook Event, click on the button that says Facebook Events. Use our form to send us the link to your Facebook Event page and you will be done!

We will import your event page within 24 hours and let you know when we have posted it on the SWAN Calendar.  Please note that you will need to contact us if you need to make any changes to your posting once it is on the SWAN Calendar.

Add/Edit Events – If you want to type in your own information, click on the Add/Edit Events button. This will take you to a page where you can log in to our system and post your event.

If this is your first time using our new system, you will need to register to get your new username and password. You will be able to log in to the new system with either your user name or email address. Once you are logged in, just fill in the one-page Add An Event form, click the Submit button at the bottom of the page, and you are done!

We will review your form within 24 hours and let you know when we have posted it on the SWAN Calendar. The advantage of filling in the form yourself is that you will be able to log in and edit it yourself at any time. Just click on the My Events link at the top of the Add an Event form to edit your events.

Help – If you click the Help button, you will find additional tips for filling in the Add an Event form.  If you have an event that runs for several days, we recommend that you look at the examples on the Help page about entering recurring events. If you get stuck, please feel free to Contact Us, and we will be happy to help you.

Special Thanks to Modern Tribe

Modern_TribewFor those of you who are interested in technical details, the new SWAN Day Calendar is powered by four WordPress plugins from the software developers at Modern Tribe – their free basic package The Events Calendar, plus Events Calendar Pro ($89), Community Events ($89), and Facebook Events ($49).

It took us a couple of weeks to tweak these programs to suit our needs, but their email support staff was very helpful, especially Geoff.

After working on this project we felt a great solidarity with the programmers at Modern Tribe. Like most artists, they are constantly working to make their products better.  If you discover any glitches or have any suggestions for calendar improvements, please let us know and we will try to address them.

Many people use WordPress and free plugins for their websites but don’t realize that the core software is free because it is written by hundreds of community volunteers. Our hats are off to all of the programmers who work so hard to make such excellent programs available to everyone!
