Do you have an idea for an article you would like to write for the WomenArts Blog? Please read the guidelines below to see if your idea fits one of our three current subject matter categories. If it does, and if our other terms are acceptable, then please use our WomenArts Blog Inquiry Form to send us a short description of your idea.
We are looking for reporters who can help us cover more of the inspiring work that women artists are doing, the latest research on gender parity in the arts, and the actions women are taking to end gender discrimination in the arts. We are looking for news articles. We are not seeking personal essays at this time.
We will get back to you as soon as we can (hopefully within 2 weeks or less) to let you know if we are interested in having you write the article. We plan to publish 2 or 3 guest articles per month.
Length: We prefer articles that are 500 – 800 words in length. It is extremely rare for us to publish articles longer than 1,000 words. We will also consider shorter articles if they fit one of the categories below.
Current Subject Matter Categories: We are currently only interested in news articles that fit into one of the following three categories:
- Inspiring Women – Articles about extraordinary or inspiring women artists and their accomplishments; articles about women artists overcoming obstacles; reports on festivals of women artists.
- Gender Parity Research & Actions – Articles summarizing research studies, legal actions, demonstrations or other activities related to the struggle for gender parity in any art form.
- Helpful Resources – Articles with tips for women artists on publicity, fundraising, crowd-sourcing, job-hunting or other business aspects of their work; articles about helpful directories, websites or other resources.
Diversity: We are especially interested in blog writers who can provide diverse perspectives in terms of race, class, religion, age, sexual/gender preference, disability and other characteristics.
Payment: Our maximum fee will be $200 for articles of 500 – 1,000 words that we publish that have not been published elsewhere. The fee will be negotiated on a case by case basis for shorter or previously published articles. WomenArts reserves the right to edit every article, and we will retain non-exclusive publishing rights. The author will have the right to publish the article on her own website or elsewhere after we have published it.
Please Post Your Events on the SWAN Calendar: If you want us to publicize a current arts event or project, please post it on our SWAN Day Calendar. Please do not submit those listings as blog inquiries. If you have a general announcement that you would like us to share, please submit that on our Contact Us page.
