Apollo Live Wire: Mothers of Invention

Live Wire looks at the blues and gospel origins of Rock n Roll and the ground breaking female icons and innovators at its heart: Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Big Mama Thornton. Tamar-kali leads this conversation which will explore how their legacies reflect the trend of hidden influences in American pop culture and the hidden histories of black female identity and cultural appropriation. Panelists include: Gracie Aghapour, Program and Communications Director at Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls; LaFrae Sci, Drummer, Composer, Cultural Ambassador and Educator; and LaRonda Davis, President of Black Rock Coalition.
