Women of Wonders Film Fest

March 1, 2018 @ 10:00 am - March 2, 2018 @ 10:00 pm

The WOMEN OF WONDERS FILM FESTIVAL highlights and celebrates the lives and accomplishments of women around the world, and here in Hawai’i.

On March 1, the WOW film fest opens with FindingKUKAN, a film that creates an unforgettable portrait of a female filmmaking pioneer, and sheds light on the long history of racial and gender discrimination behind the camera, which continues to reverberate in Hollywood today, preceded by Filipina, a short film that portrays the life story of a second-generation Filipino-American who grew up in the pineapple plantation town of Lanai City in the 1940’s.

On March 2, Film Festival presents an extraordinary line up that includes the WOW Short Films program, the documentary Dolores, on Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the first farm workers unions, and the premiere of Reel Wāhine of Hawaiʻi, six locally produced all female crew short films about the history and accomplishments of Hawaiʻi women filmmakers.

“WOW provides a unique space for the community members of diverse backgrounds and beliefs to come together and watch films that put women and girls’ stories at the center” said Vera Zambonelli (HWF festival organizer) “It is a refreshing and much needed shift.”

Full lineup and schedule is available on our website: http://www.hawaiiwomeninfilmmaking.org/wow. . .

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-serve. Donations are welcomed and all proceeds go towards scholarships to attend the 2018 Reel Camps for Girls.

The Doris Duke Theatre is located on 900 S Beretania St, Honolulu, HI 96814
