No woman has ever won an Oscar for Best Director, even though many excellent films by women are released every year.  You can see a 2005 Oscar Wish List of women's films compiled by Chicago film critic Jan Huttner at:  www.WomenArts.org/push/oscarwishlist.htm

What's happening in your town?  Are you getting to see films directed by women or not?

You can help us gather information about the availability of women's films by taking the survey below.  Just pick a multiplex or other theatre that you have attended recently and check your local listings to see if they are showing any films directed by women this week.

Any Big Movie Chains? We are especially interested in getting information about the multi-plexes and other theatres that are parts of large chains, since there are five movie chains that control 53% of the screening rooms in the U.S.  (We have posted a movie chain pie chart at: www.WomenArts.org/push/moviechains.htm) You are welcome to report on more than one multiplex or theatre in your town.  Please use a separate survey form for each location.

If you are not sure whether a film is directed by a woman or not, you can check our list of women's films released or re-released since January 2005 at: www.WomenArts.org/push/moviesdirectedbywomen.htm  Special thanks to the wonderful volunteers at Movies By Women (www.MoviesByWomen.com) who compiled this list.  Please let us know if you discover omissions or errors so that we can update the list.
