Dear Theater Manager,
Thank you for screening films directed by women in your theater. In general, movies by women do not get wide distribution. As a result, it is unusual for women to see true stories about their lives at the movies, and girls rarely see their dreams on screen.
As a customer in your theater, I am writing to thank you for showing movies by and about women and to urge you to keep up the good work. I want to see more than just the male half of every story – and I’ll use my ticket-buying power to prove it! Keep showing films by women and I’ll come see them – and I’ll tell my friends to come, too!
Our whole society will be enriched when women’s perspectives are fully represented in the arts and every other area of our lives. Men will benefit as well as women from this more inclusive vision of the world.
There are many other audience members like myself who are hungry for authentic women’s voices and visions. In collaboration with The Fund for Women Artists (www.WomenArts.org), we are joining together to urge the film industry to unleash women’s creativity and make and distribute more movies by women.
