Call to Action: There is A Field (October, 2010) – Call to theatre companies, theatre artists, and activists world-wide to put on full productions, staged readings, or living room readings of the play There is a Field by Jen Marlowe. There is a Field is composed of primary source material from the life of Asel Asleh, a 17-year-old Palestinian boy who was killed in October, 2000 by Israeli security forces during a demonstration outside his village during “Black October,” at the beginning of the second Intifada. Asel was a member of a peace program called Seeds of Peace. Material for the play comes primarily from interviews with his older sister, Nardin, other family members, and correspondence with Asel’s friends from Seeds of Peace. The play readings and productions are intended to mark the 10-year anniversary of Black October, and to provoke discussion about the issues facing Palestinians living in Israel. Those who are interested in putting on a reading or production of There is a Field should contact Jen Marlowe as soon as possible and she will provide the script. www.donkeysaddle.org.
