**Vancouver Women In Film Festival** (March 4-8, 2011, Vancouver, BC, Canada) – Seeking Short (20 minutes or shorter) and Feature films in the following categories: Animation, Documentary, and Narrative. Films from emerging and established Canadian and International filmmakers on diverse themes are encouraged. Submissions featuring strong female characters and stories are encouraged. **Chick Flicks Film Festival** (October 14, 2010, Dallas, TX) – Put on by Women In Film.Dallas, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering, promoting, and mentoring its membership in film, TV, and new media. Proceeds from entry fees and ticket sales benefit the foundation, which awards a scholarship and project completion grant to Texas women every year. Submitted films must be by a female filmmaker with Texas roots – either producer, director, or crew member with a key role in production. Seeking films by women in the following categories: Fiction Short, Documentary Short, Animated Short, Music Video, Experimental Short, and Feature Length Film. FEE: $15-$30. We Care Filmfest (January 10-May 3, 2011, New Delhi, India) – International festival of films on disability issues. Seeks to bring about attitudinal and behavioral changes on approaches to disability, promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, and rid people of misconceptions, myths and prejudices surrounding disability issues. Screenings are organized at 51 venues including educational institutions, universities and hospitals across India and the SAARC countries (Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan). Films will also be shown on a satellite TV channel in India. All films must be subtitled in English and/or Hindi, since the audience will include people with hearing impairments. **Detroit Women of Color International Film Festival** (November 12-13, 2010, Detroit, MI) – Showcases intergenerational films and videos by or about African American, Continental African, Asian, Caribbean, Latina, Middle Eastern, and Native American women, with the goal of reaching communities that have little or no access to progressive and independent films and videos. Seeking films or videos in any style or genre (racial identity, sexuality, science fiction, crime, mystery, relationships, politics, history, empowerment, healing, hip hop, cultural traditions, spirituality, love, animation, experimental art…) made by or about women of color. Writemovies.com International Writing Contest – Seeking Screenplays, Plays, Books, and Short Story entries. Grand prize winner receives $3,000 cash and guaranteed industry representation. **Womens’ International Film and Arts Festival** (March 30-April 3, 2011, Miami, FL) – Seeks to increase the number of women in the industry (women represent only 7% of filmmakers currently) and support those women who are actively involved by assisting filmmakers and artists with the development of their craft. Seeking films produced, directed, or edited by a woman, or films by men with subject matter that directly impacts women, in the following categories: Narrative Feature (70 minutes or longer), Narrative Short (69 minutes or under), Documentary Feature (50 minutes or longer), Documentary Short (49 minutes or shorter), Reel Girls, Real Women (student films by high school or college students that depict issues relating to girls; verification of student status required), and Family Films (suitable for all audiences). Birmingham Queer Open SHOUT Festival (November, 2010, Birmingham, England) – Seeking video works of a duration of 1-5 minutes for an evening screening during the festival. The theme for the project is “Invisible/Visible;” artists are free to interpret the theme in any way they choose. Work should be LGBTQ themed. Moonworks Festivals (United Kingdom) – One fee submits your film to all of the following festivals: Hampshire Film Festival, Moonworks Horror Film Festival, Moonworks Family Film Festival, and Moonworks Indie Showcase. The programmers have decided on this new opportunity to help filmmakers reduce their costs of entering festivals and increase their chances of placing their film. Funding Opportunities

San Francisco Foundation Bay Area Documentary Fund – Grants from $10,000-$25,000 to support documentary projects in early production phases by experienced filmmakers with an esteemed body of previously created work. Filmmakers must reside in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, or San Mateo Counties. Applicants must have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or a fiscal sponsor with nonprofit status based in one of the five Bay Area counties listed above. Students ineligible. Projects must address issues pertinent to the Bay Area. The Foundation is interested in documentaries exploring issues that have been historically underexposed, misinterpreted, or ignored. Heinz Endowments’ Small Arts Initiative – Opportunity for nonprofit professional arts organizations in southwestern Pennsylvania with annual budgets under $250,000. Initiative provides support grants of up to $15,000 ($8,500 average grant) and will fund a variety of performances, exhibitions, and screenings, both those that are part of an ongoing series and new projects. To be eligible, applicant must be either a pre-existing arts organization or a consortium comprised of artists or of artists, arts administrators, and advisors. Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation Grants for Artists with Disabilities – “Changing the face of disability on the planet.” Grants of $1,000-$5,000 for established programs in the areas of arts and advocacy to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations that are led by or support adults with disabilities who are 22 or older. Funds distinctive, cutting-edge programs that impact the lives of people with disabilities by changing the face of disability in a community. Organizations must demonstrate support from other foundations, corporations, and individuals in the local community. Manhattan Community Arts Fund Small Grants for Local Arts Organizations and Artists – Administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, grants of $750-$5,000 for arts projects and local artists serving Manhattan communities (last year’s average grant was $1,200.) Eligible: individual artists, nonprofit arts organizations, social service agencies, senior centers, faith-based organizations, folk societies, and cultural centers. Individuals must live in Manhattan and organizations must have had operating budgets under $100,000 for two of the last three fiscal years. Sundance Institute / Alfred P. Sloan Commissioning Grant – Cash award of up to $20,000 for a science or technology related project at an early stage (full treatment or early screenplay draft). Grant includes a small stipend (up to $5,000) for a science advisor to provide consultation and feedback, creative support from a group of advisors, the possibility of a fellowship to a Screenwriters Lab, and support form the Feature Film Program staff. Projects must be narrative features that have science or technology as a major theme or scientists as major characters (science fiction projects that stray too far from a base of scientific reality will not be considered). Projects must be in English. Projects currently in development within the studio system are not eligible. Filmmakers at all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. New York Foundation for the Arts Strategic Opportunity Stipends (SOS) Grants  - Provides grants designed to help individual artists of all disciplines take advantage of specific, unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career. Open to artists in eligible counties of New York State outside the five boroughs of Manhattan (see website for list of eligible counties). Grants are between $200-$1,500 for forthcoming opportunities that are distinct from an artist’s ongoing work. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; students ineligible. National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC) Fund for the Arts – Grants of $2,500-$10,000 to support Latino working artists and ensembles and small and mid-sized Latino arts and cultural organizations. Must be NALAC member (individual membership: $35/year; organizational memberships start at $60/year) and individual artists must be 18+ years old. Submit in English or Spanish. SIA Foundation Grants – Funding for tax-exempt organizations working in Indiana. Proposals may request $1,000-$10,000 for a capital project (i.e., investing in facilities, equipment, or real estate). San Francisco Film Society Hearst Screenwriting Grant - Conceived to identify, nurture and support mid-career screenwriters who are writing scripts that are vibrant, intelligent, moving and innovative. For talented screenwriters with projects at an early stage such as full treatment or early screenplay draft, the grant provides $15,000 to develop their projects further. Applicants must have written a minimum of one previous feature screenplay and have been a practicing writer for at least 5 years. Applicants must be U.S. residents and at least 18 years old. Application, screenplay and treatment must be written in English. Script must not have been optioned, purchased, in production, or produced. No adaptations. Screenplays should express a unique personal perspective and artistic approach to the subject. Priority will be given to writers whose previous short or feature screenplays have been made into independent films. The first step in the application process is to submit a letter of inquiry through the SFFS website; if selected as a finalist, you will be asked to submit a full application, including a 5-10 page treatment and a minimum of 10 pages of a script in addition to a full script other than the one they are applying for. Tournées Festival / French American Cultural Exchange (FACE) – Grant program designed to help bring contemporary French cinema to American college and university campuses. Applicants must be affiliated with an American college or university and must show films for which the grant support is sought as part of a festival, with all screenings taking place within a one-month period; festival should consist of at least 5 films, the number of films the grant covers. Films may also be presented as part of a larger festival of French or international films. Apply online through website. Experimental Television Center Media Arts Technical Assistance Fund – Designed to help nonprofit media organizations in New York State with grants generally limited to $4,000. Through organizational development, groups can stabilize, strengthen, or restructure capacity, services, and activities. Fund also helps media arts organizations attend professional conferences. For Organizational Development support, priority given to organizations with established media arts activity in the areas of exhibition, distribution, facilities and equipment access, training, preservation, or information services. The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) Fellowship for Creative and Performing Artists and Writers – Visiting fellowship for historical research by creative and performing artists, writers, filmmakers, playwrights, journalists, and others producing imaginative, non-formulaic works dealing with pre-20th century American history. Recipients receive 4-week period of uninterrupted research, reading, and collegial discussion at the AAS, a national research library and learned society of American history and culture, located in Worcester, MA; $1,350/$1,850 stipend (on campus/off campus housing). Period of residence may occur any time during 2011 calendar year. Applicants encouraged to rent rooms and prepare meals in AAS’s historic mansion across the street from the AAS library. Society for the Arts in Healthcare – Johnson and Johnson Grants – Seeks to engage community healthcare workers, caregivers, families and artists in the practice of arts in healthcare by building skills and health literacy among a broad range of people serving community health needs, ultimately increasing community support, involvement, and leadership in the public health arena. Promotes the use of the arts to enhance the healthcare experience for patients, their families, and caregivers. Preference will be given to programs that are highly innovative, self-sustaining and replicable, represent the potential for strong partnerships between organizations, leverage other funding resources, and have clear goals and positive outcomes for patients, their families and caregivers. To be eligible for consideration, grant applicants must be a current member of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare, located in the U.S. or Canada (partners may be international), a non-profit organization with federal tax exempt status and organized and operated for charitable purposes or a governmental agency (state or local, including education or institutions), and be able to show a demonstrated ability to work effectively in partnership with other organizations. The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences (February-April, 2011, Rabun Gap, GA) – Residencies of an average of 2 weeks – 2 months for artists in all disciplines. Housing, studio, and 4 meals a week provided. Artist responsible for residency fee ($200/week), refundable cleaning deposit ($50), additional food, travel, and materials. Fellowships are available. Residency provides housing, studio space, kitchen access, and car for resident use. Elsewhere Collaborative (March-November, 2010, Greensboro, NC) – Residencies between 2-6 weeks from creative artists working in all media. The collaborative is a three-floor former thrift store turned into a living museum. Residents constantly compose and re-imagine the environment through projects that respond to layers of objects, artworks, collections, architecture, histories, and concepts within the building. Residents enter into an evolving collaborative artwork, inhabit production spaces, and establish living sites throughout the museum, using the resources from the 58-year-old inventory. Residency provides housing, workspace, and materials; artist responsible for program fee ($250), travel, and participation in food co-operative ($35/week). Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts (January-June, 2011, Nebraska City, NE) – Two, four, six, or eight-week for visual artists, writers, composers, interdisciplinary artists, and arts and arts education scholars.  Some “transitional” residencies reserved for recent masters degree program graduates.  Residents receive free housing and a studio as well as a $100 per week stipend. Vermont Studio Center (year-round, Johnson, VT) - 4-12 week residencies for writers (including screenwriters and playwrights) and visual artists (excluding filmmakers). Organization provides housing, meals, and studios. Resident responsible for residency fee ($3,500 per month) and travel. Full and partial fellowships, as well as work-exchange fellowships, are available to offset residency costs; some fellowships include travel reimbursement and materials stipend. American Academy in Berlin Fellowships (2011-2012 Academic Year, Berlin, Germany) – Fellowships for emerging and established scholars, writers, and professionals who wish to engage in independent study in Berlin. Fellowships are usually awarded for an academic semester, occasionally for an academic year. Fellowship includes round-trip airfare, accommodations, partial board, and a stipend of $5,000 per month. National Humanities Center Residential Fellowships – Private, nonprofit, North Carolina-based center will provide 40 residential fellowships of up to $60,000 plus travel (including for dependents) for advanced study in the humanities from September 2011-May 2012.  Scholars of any age and from any nation encouraged, but must hold doctorate or equivalent and have record of publication. In addition to scholars from all fields of humanities, the NHC accepts individuals, including from the arts, who are engaged in humanistic projects. Most of the fellowships are unrestricted, but several are designated for particular areas of research, such as environmental studies and history; English literature; art history; French history, literature, or culture; Asian Studies; and theology. Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) Fellowship Program – Will connect young, talented individuals with leading professionals in a range of media professions, including filmmakers, actors, exhibition specialists, and film critics. Fellowships will be individually tailored to best fit the needs of the fellows and the advisors, who will be leading Asian American talents in film and television. Fellows will also have the opportunity to connect with the larger community of Asian American media professionals through a Producers Workshop at CAAM’s festival and a CAAM Fellowship Program Retreat for all participants.
