Personal Statement: Although I started as a painter, I lost my ability to mix colour through a chemical injury 12 years ago; 3 years later I became addicted to beads and jewelry design, especially designs inspired by Apsley Acers, our beautiful private wild woods surrounding our log cabin.

I certainly didn't go looking for a love affair with beads. People have been beading for many thousands of years. Never had I heard that beads were addictive. There were no warning labels on the first packages I purchased.

Unlimited styles, shapes and materials from around the globe make design possibilities limitless, each piece is unique. Before I knew it beads had taken over my studio.

When I added Gaia's rock slices to my designs they became truly "One of a Kind". These slices have an internal history almost as fascinating as the piece itself. People often tell me they feel a particular piece calling to them as soon as they enter my studio. I understand their surprise.

Current Work
I am working on many projects at the moment.
Gallery Show
For the month of January 2005 - I participated in a gallery show at the Art Gallery of Bancroft called "3 in the Gallery" .
A delicious mix of photography, paintings and jewelry.

If you look at older entries you can read some of the write-ups from that show.

Grandmother Story Dolls
I am also working on a series of Grandmother story dolls in Papier Mâché/fabric and all sorts of other bits..

I am not sure yet how the idea for these evolved, but I know I need to do them.
These ladies are very complex & diverse in topic.. many others waiting in the wings for their creation.

The first two physically evolving at the moment, are so far apart in subject that I wonder about myself. One is the story of "Nushu" the only "woman's writing" in the world. This doll is almost 2 feet tall; she will be dressed in Song Dynesty costume and will carry a pair of bound foot shoes.
She is yelling her story to the world..
I am working with the local story teller putting together an interesting proposal for a "woman's studies" presentation.

The other doll in progress is telling the story of Dreams and Nightmares through a silver dream catcher. Dressed in the sheer colours of night; bedecked in stars; carrying the herbs of sweet dreams - it will be interesting to watch her evolution also.
Progress with these ladies has slowed; due to an upswing in interest for my jewelry. I just acknowledged that I cannot always "do" everything:-9
Short Bio
My jewelry evolves from glimpses into the soul of Apsley Acers, our private wild woods surrounding our log cabin. I slice raw rock hewn from the ground, then polish one side to reveal the intrinsic beauty hidden within each piece. A hauntingly beautiful yet rustic wearable art piece invariably evolves.

I am not looking to achieve a polished, perfect, or symmetrical style of jewelry. I appreciate the more basic vibration and allow each slice to showcase itself whenever possible.

Growing up in the wilds of the North Shore of Lake Superior allows me a comfortable serenity and appreciation of the inherent artistic perfection bequeathed to us all from our Earth Mother Gaia. I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to showcase her unique designs in my jewelry.

I often head off on tangents, working numerous threads and ideas into my designs. Sometimes pieces evolve from ancient legends. I also address the "energies" natural stones have hidden within in them waiting to be tapped - sometimes this energy is in their colour and sometimes their charm talisman energy has a story needs to be told.
