Current Work Currently I am exhibiting a body of work at the Painted Bride along with works by other members of WOMEN HOLLER, an all-women artist collective from Philadelphia.
I also, have been commissioned to create the largest mural in the Lehigh Valley in Allentown, Pa. |
Short Bio Michelle Angela Ortiz was born and raised in South Philadelphia. Her household flourished with her Latin American and Caribbean cultures. Her work focuses on the importance of time and existence. Culture, spirituality, community and the sense of self are also strong elements in her work.
For the past five years, Ortiz has worked with various nonprofit organizations such as Taller Puertorriqueño, Network Arts, Mural Arts Program, Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Art for Change, The Village of Arts and Humanities, AMLA, The Multicultural Youth Exchange Gallery, The Please Touch Museum, and RaÌces Culturales Latinoamericanas.
She has created over fifteen large-scale murals and mosaics in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and internationally abroad in Ecuador.
Ortiz has also exhibited her paintings and prints in numerous galleries such as: The Painted Bride, Fox Gallery & The Kelly Writer's House (University of Pennsylvania), Stedman Gallery (Rutgers University), Goldey Paley Gallery (Moore College), Lorenzo Homar Gallery (Taller Puertorriqueño), Art Forms Gallery. Also, Ortiz has various works in permanent and private collections in Philadelphia and abroad.
She currently serves the board of the National Women's Caucus for Art, MYX gallery and the Mural Arts Program. She is also a member of "LAS GALLAS" and "WOMEN HOLLER" both artist collectives in Philadelphia.
