Mission Statement: Squallis Puppeteers is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding puppetry by performing innovative theater, exploring original puppet design and engaging the imagination.

The art of puppetry allows us to build community through forging creative collaborations that support educational discovery, social change and vibrant interaction.

Current Work
We have begun the process of working with the playwright, Tanya Palmer on a new puppet piece called "Trash." We plan to begin construction of the puppets in December and will continue through January. The script will be fine tuned by February. We will conduct rehearsals through February and March 2004. The protagonist of the play is a teen-aged girl who begins to realize and rebel against her family's dumpster diving lifestyle.

We hope to have an excerpt from “Trash” ready April 1, 2004 to be performed at a puppetry event that Squallis is hosting. Our goal is to be ready to perform the entire piece in October of 2004. Initially, we plan to host three performances, but hope to continue performing the piece as it is requested.
History
Squallis Puppeteers is a constantly evolving troupe of puppet enthusiasts. We make our own puppets, write our own plays, and orchestrate them with original music. We continue to develop new puppet styles and performances inspired by international puppet traditions.

Squallis puppeteers have been performing and teaching puppetry for children and adults in Louisville since 1997. Our first performance was “The Chicken Show", and featured five chicken hand puppets that sang of their longing for freedom performed for an adult audience. In 1999, we received a Kentucky Foundation for Women Grant to produce "The Crowning", a story depicting a single woman's struggle through pregnancy and childbirth choices. Our next adult performance was “The Boxer", debuting in 2002, which is an original puppet play set in 1904 Coney Island. We collaborated in 2003 with The Rhythms of Life Dance Company to create “Myth” a series of Greek myths told through dance and puppetry.

We have also developed two children’s hand puppet shows. “Wheel of Solution” is a participatory show in which children help characters resolve conflicts. “Emotional Rollercoaster” asks the audience to help puppets recognize how they are feeling. These two shows have been performed for over thirty libraries, schools, and community centers in Louisville since 2000 and have reached over a thousand children.
