Personal Statement: My work is a personal investigation into the aspects of loss and of longing that are very peculiarly female. I am very interested in the idea of a state of innocence and I wonder how it is that this innocence can be lost. After leaving that state of grace, one becomes aware of one’s own constant state of vulnerability - a state that we all inhabit as physical bodies occupying space.

For my subject matter, I am drawn to using sweet, kitschy, nostalgic images of women as portrayed in 1950's & 60's media, which I transpose into precarious environments & darkly pretty, melancholic psychological spaces. My drawings & videos rely on a melodramatic sensibility to emphasize the heightened anxiety and the interior dilemma of the subject. Other interests that come up in my work include kitsch, cliché, cliques, emptiness, tragedy, fashion, dolls, beauty, & mental illness.

Current Work
Sometimes a doll is walking down the street and a cloud follows her. Most of the time she is alone, and doesn’t even notice. But sometimes the clouds grow into something else - like a monster or a dragon, with bug parts, or teeth.
Sometimes the weather will turn into a dream; the clouds become large projection screens, blowing bubbles, or illustrating a doll’s thoughts and fears.
These kind of naturally occurring conditions can be overwhelming, may cause a doll to question her senses. These clouds don’t often cause harm, though some use bubbles or shiny hooks as lures.
While the more pensive dolls feel threatening by these clouds, most dolls have learned how to cope. They know that it’s best to just keep on walking, if at all physically possible.
