Current Work For summer 2004, IMA east will be offering 3 sessions of Rock 'n Roll camp for teen-aged girls. Session I: July 10 - 18, Session II: July 24- August 1, and Session III: August 7 - 15.
The camps will be led by three seasoned musicians: June Millington, a singer, songwriter, and electric guitarist (called the "hottest female guitar player" by Guitar Player Magazine), who is also skilled as an album producer and engineer. Evelyn Harris, a former member of Sweet Honey in the Rock with over 30 years of professional singing experience, and drummer Loren Weisman, who has toured and played studio sessions extensively.
Participants will bring original songs or creative writing, and tunes will be developed, arranged, charted out and rehearsed. On the last day, the students and faculty will put on a performance for friends and family. The cost of the week-long camp is $750 including meals and housing. For more information, call 413-268-3074.
Throughout the year, IMA offers a series of concerts by established female artists as well as showcasing new artists who have recorded or studied at IMA. Designed to break down barriers between artist and audience, the concerts take place in intimate settings and include question and answer periods.
IMA also presents weekend workshops, facilitated by performing artists and music business professionals, throughout the year. Topics include: vocal & instrumental instruction; album production, recording & sound reinforcement techniques; lyric & music composition; booking, promotion & entertainment law.
IMA serves as a clearinghouse and networking center for resources and services available to women in music. If we can't directly provide you with the information you seek, we'll refer you to someone who can. IMA has also developed a website, www.musicwomen.com, to distribute the recordings of artists affiliated with IMA. |
History On performance evenings IMA is filled with folks who relish the chance to hear great music in an intimate setting; the workshops fill the space with individuals who have come together around their love of music, whether they are professional performers or not.
When the vision for IMA was set to paper, there was no mention of a kitchen; yet, as the dream has taken form, the kitchen has become the very center of "the IMA experience" and it is rarely empty. Perhaps in the end the model IMA will offer is that of an institution grown from the need to nourish ourselves and each other.
Imagine a world where the major decisions affecting the community are made in the kitchen, rather than in some isolated boardroom; a world where what is central at the workplace is the coming together to break bread, rather than simply to make bread.
Imagine this, because it is happening in our little corner of the world as we grow this place rooted in women's relationships. Imagine this, because as we continue to work to bring equality, balance and harmony to the world, we are building a community where everyone who comes to the table is fed.
