Current Work Draka the Dragon - Click here to see the dragon!
Dahud-Ahes the Mermaid : When complete, she will stand approximately 25 feet tall, and an entrance at the front of her hips (yoni) will invite the observer to interact with her. Like a nautical jungle-gym, one can access her interior and climb into and on top of her. Like Draka the Dragon, her scales are cut from recycled 55 gallon steel drums. Scrap metal, perforated steel, & other found objects also add depth and mystery to her overall design, with blue & green lights glowing from within.

Draka Arts Foundation
A non-profit arts organization focused on providing an inspirational and creative space of retreat for artists, musicians, writers, scholars, and other creative souls. Through the development of an Arts Facility, Foundry, Residence Program, and a forum for the exchange of ideas, we hope our program participants will nurture their dreams while partaking in the creation of a conscious & self-sustaining community. |
Short Bio Lisa Nigro founded Draka Arts in 2002 so that artists might have the luxury of time, funds, studio space, and access to facilities to create their work free from the shackles of societal obligations and demands. In 2003 Lisa founded and organized the first Burnin'Bush Arts Festival in Black Rock Desert, Nevada. Because of its popularity, the event will continue to take place annually, every 4th of July weekend. Artists, performers, crafts people and other creative types are invited to celebrate fire and the metal arts as they pay homage to Brigit, goddess of the hearth fire.
Lisa is primarily a metal sculptor who has produced large-scale kinetic, sculptural/installations and performance pieces since 1993. Lisa earned her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1985.
Lisa has exhibited her paintings, drawings and installation works both nationally and internationally. She has fifteen years experience as a graphic designer in advertising and children's textbook publishing. She worked as an Assistant Teacher in Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Bronze Casting, Mold-Making and Graphic Design at the University of Texas at Austin. She later taught Computer Graphics at Artists Television Access and Media Alliance in San Francisco; and also worked with teens-at-risk in Youth Industry's Artist-Mentorship Program in the Mission District of San Francisco. Her work has been published in Rolling Stone Magazine, MIT Press Leonardo Journal, ARTFORUM, and SteelGirl.
