Current Work Over the past several years EBSQ has evolved a great deal. We now have members from several countries and representatives from many art disciplines and philosophies. Our community has become a resource that many of our members utilize daily for lively discussions, as a sounding board for works in progress, for news, in-depth critiques, helpful tips (be it marketing or media), workshops, and collaborative opportunities with their fellow members. |
History EBSQ has its early roots in eBay's online art auctions. Originally, the four letter term "EBSQ" was an abbreviation for "e-basquiat," after the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, who was admired by some of the group's founding artists. However, the real power of the term "EBSQ" was that it's a rarely found combination of letters that helped members' auction listings to "stand out" in the vast sea of reproductions, prints, posters, and big-gallery offerings when collectors searched for that perfect piece of art. Many of our members still auction their work regularly. Our group pioneered the Self-Representing Artists concept - EBSQ was directly responsible for the creation of the Self-Representing Artist category at two major online auction sites: eBay and Bidz.
