Personal Statement: When I created The Fund for Women Artists in 1994, I had been working as an arts manager for twenty years. I was disturbed that stereotyped images of women were often accepted without comment in "works of art," and I had experienced many situations where women artists were not paid as well as their male counterparts. I decided to create an organization that would address these two issues.

In our second decade, The Fund for Women Artists is focusing on our online services. We maintain the WomenArts Network, a directory of over 1,000 women artists; we provide information about funding sources through our newsletters and website; and we organize activities like Support Women Artists Now Day that draw attention to the needs and status of women artists in the U.S. and around the world.

Current Work
I work full-time as the Executive Director of The Fund for Women Artists. I oversee all of the activities of The Fund for Women Artists, and I am currently focusing on organizing the second international Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day, which will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2009. See www.SwanDay.org.

I am available for lectures, workshops, or panel discussions on fundraising, arts management, women and the arts, or arts advocacy issues. I am often able to offer fresh perspectives on these topics, because my views of the arts world have been deeply influenced by my interests in law, economics, and feminism.

I wrote a short essay in October 2003 about the factors that led me to create The Fund for Women Artists. It is available in the Advocacy/International Issues/Manila Pages section of this site.
