Personal Statement: When I created WomenArts (formerly known as The Fund for Women Artists) in 1994, I had been working as an arts manager for twenty years. I was disturbed that stereotyped images of women were often accepted without comment in "works of art," and I had experienced many situations where women artists were not paid as well as their male counterparts. I decided to create an organization that would address these two issues.

WomenArts helps women find the resources they need to do their creative work by providing free networking, fundraising, and advocacy information on our website. We maintain the WomenArts Network, a directory of over 1,400 women artists; we provide information about funding sources through our e-newsletters and website; and we organize activities like Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day that draw attention to the needs and status of women artists in the U.S. and around the world.

Current Work
I work full-time as the Executive Director of WomenArts. I oversee all of the organization's activities, including the annual international celebrations of Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day. See www.SwanDay.org.

I am available for lectures, workshops, or panel discussions on fundraising, arts management, women and the arts, or arts advocacy issues. I am often able to offer fresh perspectives on these topics, because my views of the arts world have been deeply influenced by my interests in law, economics, and feminism.

I wrote a short essay in October 2003 about the factors that led me to create WomenArts. Read the essay>>
