From a very young age, Kelly was gifted at art and had a deep love and fascination for animals. Naturally, they were her favorite subjects. She knew early on that she wanted to be an artist and she credits her parents for encouraging her desire to pursue art.

Kelly holds a B.F.A. in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She has trained with notable wildlife artists: Robert Bateman, John Banovich, Dan Smith, Matthew Hillier, the late Paco Young, Julie Chapman, and Andrew Denman.

Her work is found in private collections across the United States and has been displayed in numerous regional and national shows - most notably, in the highly competitive Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum and the Society of Animal Artists Art and the Animal exhibition. She holds memberships in the prestigious Society of Animal Artists (SAA), Artists for Conservation (AFC), and the Baltimore Watercolor Society (BWS). The SAA has recognized Kelly’s work for two consecutive years with the Evelyn & Peter Haller Distinguished Young Artist Award in 2006 and the Don Eckelberry Scholarship Award in 2007.
