Current Work After a familiar road trip though the southern states, I experienced the landscapes at the Alabama rest stops as a negotiation of colors and human experiences coming together to be an interesting subject for a series of paintings. As I continue to interpret human experiences in my work as a metaphor of time, these fragile and delicate experiences continue to intrigue and influence my work. This is the gift of art: Recording beauty brings nourishment to life. A drive along a country road in Alabama says “I am here, too.” This series is part of a large group of work I am currently developing which combines transition and rhythm with the human experience. |
Short Bio The end result of years of collecting fabrics, paints, and paper was only the beginning - my sewing room was packed from ceiling to floor with memories. Tucked away between my daughter’s decades of school projects were dusty papers and thick plastic bags filled with buttons and a collection of fabric pieces that I would transform into a collection of creative images. Pieces of fabric with vibrant images that embraced so many stories inspired a new creative process.
When I interpret my art as stories, some are epic and some are brief. Some reflect the experiences of my past and some express my hopes for the future. Some are a one-time-only expression of an idea and some continue to emerge in new forms, an ongoing tale that I love to revisit.
Because my art embraces both adults and children, my art forms have been exhibited during the American Heart Association’s “If The Patchwork Could Talk” project in Indianapolis, Indiana, and contributed to my teaching with the Storytelling Institute Summer Camp in Wichita, Kansas.
