Personal Statement: Edith Wharton said that a personal life is like a house with many rooms, the public ones brightly lit and open for display, but that she had lived all her life in a small dark room in the attic, desperately waiting to be discovered, for the sound of footsteps in the hall...

I work in a studio in an attic. My installation, bookmaking, print, and multimedia work is about the wisdom of mad women from the 18th and 19th centuries and what the legacy of their words brings us, women in the 21st century. I am interested in mad women and the spaces they occupy, literally and figuratively, and lately I am interested in the feminist history of architecture and design, in the modern rejection of ornament and flourish and what that means for the feminine aesthetic and the spaces women occupy.

Current Work
I am currently creating an installation that addresses feminist space, architectural and design history, and mental health/normalcy through the work of Charlotte Perkins Gilman, particularly women and economics and The Yellow Wallpaper. A riotous three-dimensional occupation of space constructed entirely of hand colored wallpaper and text, it explores the mythical spaces of utopia inside Charlotte's Wallpaper. It is also looking for an exhibition space - suggestions would be welcomed!
Short Bio
I am a transplanted Englishwoman living and working in a Gothic attic in upstate NY. As well as creating tactical and gallery installations, I also make books, prints, and multimedia pieces I call "leavings." I teach freshman art classes at a local college and bookmaking wherever I can.

I am a voracious reader, always interested in the intersections of women, history, design, space and, of course, the definitions of normal. My work is generated through a little Celtic magical thinking, a kind of tumble down the rabbit hole, or maybe cohabiting with the Jabberwocky in the interstices of the possible.
