Current Work Karen is currently attending the University of South Florida to finish her art degrees. |
Short Bio Karen M. Tremmel was born and raised in the Tennessee Valley at the foot of Lookout Mountain, surrounded by dramatic scenes of nature and wildlife juxtaposed with steel mills, dams, farming, and fragments of the Civil War. In 1968, Karen relocated to Canada where she was involved with the art and writing communities. She lived and worked at Rochdale, Toronto’s student-run Free University, where she taught art. For over 20 years, she spent her time going back to nature - exploring natural Canada, the Rockies, the prairies of Alberta, Vancouver Island, and the Canadian Maritimes while researching, painting, and writing about her intimate experiences with wildlife and the natural world. Karen has illustrated and completed writing her first novel, In Lily Shadows, and has begun to write a second. For over 11 years she has written and illustrated a weekly nature column, "Back to Nature," for newspapers in Florida, where she continues to paint and teach in her studio.
