Personal Statement: I am a visual artist working in photography and video. For the past 15 years, I have been montaging photographic negatives and more recently, digital images to create imagined and symbolic layered compositions. The textures I choose - plants, graffiti, sea creatures and aerial landscapes may be microscopic or immense. I seek to connect and juxtapose the human figure with natural forms and painted elements to create visual metaphors that are psychologically and conceptually compelling.

Taking my inspiration from poetry and classical myths, my work implies a narrative when viewed in its entirety. However, most of the prints are mural scale and it is my desire that each image engages and ensnares the viewer in its presence.

Current Work
I am currently printing mural scale digital photographs of the "Aphrodite" series onto watercolor paper - they are lush and watery looking. The series features montaged images of jelly fish, anemones, starfish and sea dragons with female figures. The images evoke a serene, contemplative vision of the floating world.
Short Bio
I live in Chicago with my husband, and I work full-time on my artwork. I began my ongoing series while working on my thesis exhibition at the Rhode Island School of Design (MFA, Photography, 1989). This past year I exhibited work at Art Chicago 2003 with Walsh Gallery, had a solo exhibition, MYTHIC, at FLATFILE, and exhibited "Graffiti Bodies", a projected sound and video installation at FLATFILE GALLERY in Chicago.
Honors
I have received an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship (1991), a Fulbright Award (1992), and numerous Chicago Arts Assistance Grants (1993, 2001, 2002, 2003).
