Personal Statement: Cassandra and the Jawaahir Dance Company are dedicated to presenting Middle Eastern dance as a living art form, bringing the rich folkloric heritage of the Middle East to the theater stage, and providing education about the dance in its authentic form.

In carrying out our mission, we strive to make our work culturally, financially, and physically accessible to the public.

Jawaahir Dance Company celebrates its twentieth anniversary!

Cassandra and the Jawaahir dancers perform all new works with the most awe-inspiring, mind-blowing, house-rockin’ Arabic musicians this country has to offer. New spins on traditional styles permeate the presentations, bringing enchantment (tarab) and virtuosity to center stage. These concerts are truly a unique opportunity to hear and see the inspired artistry of contemporary Arabic music and dance! Join us as we celebrate the new (jadid) and honor the traditional (turath).

Short Bio
Cassandra Shore began performing Middle Eastern dance in 1975 and has since made over a dozen research trips to the Middle East. Her studies began in San Francisco with the legendary performer Jamila Salimpour. In addition, Cassandra has studied with some of the finest teachers and choreographers of Middle Eastern dance, notably including Mahmoud Reda, Mohammed Khalil, Vivian Hamamjian, Ragia Hassan, and the late Ibrahim Farrah. In 1978, Ms. Shore opened the Cassandra School, which offers classes in technique, choreography, performance skills, dance conditioning, and Arabic language and culture studies. In 1989, she formed Jawaahir Dance Company, which has since been recognized for its ground-breaking repertory of traditional, modern, and fusion works of Middle Eastern and contemporary dance.

Today, Cassandra is known as a master teacher, star performer, and creative artist in the field of Middle Eastern dance. Her work has been rewarded with grants, commissions, and awards. She regularly offers workshops, concerts, and master classes worldwide, teaching and performing in locations such as Cairo, Egypt; Marrakesh, Morocco; as well as Finland, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, New Zealand, and throughout the United States and Canada.
Honors
Cassandra Shore is a recipient of the Minnesota Dance Alliance/McKnight Foundation Resident Choreographer's Award, as well as the MDA/Jerome Foundation Sponsor Pool and Dancer Pool Awards.
