NewShoe
Email newshoetheatre@gmail.com

Mission Statement: NewShoe is a playwright-director theatre group whose aim is to encourage collaborations among women playwrights and directors and to foster an artist's individual work through thoughtful response to scripts and projects. In bimonthly meetings and workshops, NewShoe strives to create a trusting environment that helps shape more thoughtful and courageous work.

NewShoe responds to the specific needs of each project rather than coercing work into a set development path. Members share responsibilities for planning, organization, fundraising, and project implementation.

NewShoe - "Making strides for women playwrights and directors."

Current Work
COMING UP - CELEBRATING WOMEN ARTISTS OF THE WPA!

NEWSHOE is developing a play that will weave together voices of women who worked in the Federal Writer's Project of the WPA and contemporary women playwrights. For more information, please click here>>
History
The name NewShoe is inspired by Nu Shu, the name given to the code writing of Chinese women in feudal Hunan province. Forbidden to write, the women came up with a cryptic writing system to communicate with and supported each other through poems, stories, and songs. Our Anglicized spelling winks at the association of women with shoes while acknowledging we are the newest shoe in a continuum of theaters for women who owe their inspiration to Julia Miles and her leadership of the Women's Project and Productions.

Suzanne Bennett and Marya Cohn, founders, and Teresa K. Pond currently serve as meeting facilitators and share administrative and programmatic responsibilities.

New Shoe Members: Michele Aldin, Alexandra Aron, Suzanne Bennett, Jill Campbell, Allyn Chandler, Marya Cohn, Cheryl Davis, Lia Gladstone, Dana Leslie Goldstein, Andrea Lepcio, Elysa Marden, Kim Merrill, Teresa K. Pond, Lauren Rosen, and Barbara Rubin.
