Personal Statement: A retired professional dancer, dance advocate/law school graduate, college professor, and triathlete.

Current Work
Currently I work part-time as a consultant for my own firm Spectrum Equality Arts, which was founded to support culturally specific artists and arts organizations. I work full-time as Director of Dance/NYC and as adjunct faculty at New York University SCPS.
Short Bio
Michelle founded Spectrum Equality Arts in 2008 and is currently the Director of Dance/NYC, the New York branch of Dance/USA. Prior to Dance/NYC, Michelle worked with Complexions Contemporary Ballet as Executive Director and as Administrative Director for Ballet Hispanico. Ms. Burkhart has over 10 years experience in nonprofit management and a 12 year career as a professional dancer. Additionally, Michelle is an adjunct professor at New York University where she teaches various courses in Arts Administration. She has served as a panelist for the Westchester Arts Council and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and has worked with Columbia University and Cornell University in an advisory capacity on research and academic arts studies. She was named a Tenenbaum Leadership Fellow at New School U niversity in 2008. She holds a B.S. in Organizational Behavior from University of San Francisco as well as a J.D. with specialization in sports and entertainment law from Golden Gate University.
