Personal Statement: As a visual artist, I begin my exploration within the forest - it is there I find a primal urge that releases imagery deeply rooted in Prehistoric Art. Through this search I make an immediate connection to the body, arriving at the womb. The womb not only becomes the center foundation from which my work is developed, it holds as a universal symbol connecting the self and the outside world.

Living in an urban environment, nature is often absent. By constructing installations that bring a reflection of natural spaces to sterile and industrial atmospheres, I try to find a balance between the two. Most importantly, by recreating nature within its void, I reflect on my unnerving concern with over-development. It is here I hope to bring a consciousness to society, who will in return create change.

Short Bio
Philadelphia native Angela Victor presented "Surface" at Highwire Gallery this July. In 1999 Victor graduated from Moore College of Art and Design with a BFA in two-dimensional fine arts, and has also studied printmaking at Tyler School of Art and Fleisher Art Memorial.

Victor’s current work offers a strong return to her printmaking roots. Her latest installation finds a newly developed body of work that largely relies on textile elements. And at its core, we still find a mixed-media technique that is highly enhanced by texture and layering, which has become Victor’s trademark approach.
