Mission Statement: Our mission is cross-cultural communication through film and theatre projects. We focus on works written, directed, or produced by underrepresented communities. Our mission is centered on the idea that the arts provide an arena to learn about communities and cultures, and we hope that by presenting this work we can help build tolerance among all communities.

Current Work
San Francisco Stage & Film produces two festivals each year: The Absolute Time Play Festival, which presents two staged readings of new plays, and The Absolute Time Film Festival, which presents films by and about underrepresented communities.

In these festivals we have presented plays and films that have dealt with topics such as:

  • Women soccer players in Israel who are trying to get recognition in a country that does not take them seriously

  • Two men from Bucharest who are given an opportunity to move to London but cannot decide if they want to leave the East

  • A young Mexican-American girl in the 1950s who struggles with her identity

  • A woman who comes home to her apartment every night only to find that it has been taken over by a poetry slam and she cannot decide if she is dreaming or if the intruders are real

We have presented comedy, tragedy, and documentaries. We have presented work that investigates class, religious and ethnic differences, sexual orientation, gender issues, sexuality, reality, and identity - basically, any idea that explores the human spirit in order to understand ourselves and each other better.
History
Established as a non-profit organization in 2003, San Francisco Stage & Film has blossomed and now produces a full season of work. We are expanding in 2007 by touring our film festival to rural communities throughout the U.S. and producing a fully-staged theatre production in San Francisco.
