Mission Statement: A woman's right to choose soars in a series of 15-plus powerful theatrical shorts -- serious and comic. Created by Cindy Cooper, "Words of Choice" is performed by an ensemble of actors, who weave together the words of many writers.

These are stories from the heart: humorous and serious; poignant and riveting, from theater, spoken word, comedy, poetry, oral history and journalism.

Writings include 15 or more works by writers Angela Bonavoglia, Judith Arcana, Justice Harry Blackmun, Kathleen Tolan, Alix Olson, Emily Lyons, Sherica White, Michael Quinn, Emilie Townes, Gloria Feldt, Cindy Cooper, Kathy Najimy, The Onion. Suzanne Bennett served as co-adaptor.

Current Work
In Fall, 2005, "Words of Choice" went on The Emergency Tour of Red States: Two vacancies on the Supreme Court might mean trouble for the right to privacy .... but the right to privacy is already in trouble in Kansas! And there's a fake state of Emergency in Missouri that is putting young women at risk!
History
"Words of Choice" first toured in the Fall of 2004 to 18 cities across the U.S., putting reproductive rights on the top of the agenda. The piece was performed at colleges, faith-based institutions, theatres, galleries, and community centers.

The creator of 'Words of Choice,' Cindy Cooper is an award-winning playwright and journalist in New York City. Her plays have been produced in New York, regional theaters, Canada and parts of Europe, including at the Women's Project, Primary Stages, Art and Work Ensemble, the Women's Project in Minneapolis, Venus Theater, and elsewhere. Among her works is How She Played the Game about six women in sports history. A member of the Dramatists' Guild, her plays are contained in eleven volumes, including 'Great Monologues for Women' and 'On The Edge.' With a background as a lawyer, she was communications director in the field of reproductive justice. She first created 'Words of Choice' in 2000, working with co-adaptor Suzanne Bennett.
