Short Bio Pacific Northest native TAMARA KAYE SELLMAN is a publishing professional and writer living and working in Bainbridge Island, Washington. She specializes in literary fiction, magical realism, food and garden writing, freelance feature journalism, independent publishing, and motivational and educational workshops for writers. She is also an activist for media literacy and free speech.
Sellman's fiction, poetry, columns, editorials, reviews, and other writings have been published widely. Her story, "The Rosaries of Raggedy Ann," was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She has earned other honors, including the Northwest Cultural Council 2nd Place prize for poetry in 2004, a James Hearst Poetry Prize (North American Review) honorable mention for 2003, honors with the annual Authors in the Park contest, Whelks Walk Review, AIM—America's Intercultural Magazine, ByLine magazine, the Illinois State Poetry Society, the Louisiana State Poetry Society, Rosebud's Best of 1997, and the King County Arts Commission's bus poetry contest.
Sellman is a graduate of Columbia College, 1990, Journalism focus with extensive short fiction study.
Previous founder, facilitator and instructor of writing intensive workshops for Wild Dove Writers Studio, a women's writing collective in suburban Chicago (now the national Jane's Stories Press Foundation).
