Mission Statement: Founded in 2001, Nicu's Spoon produces socially relevant theatrical works that present new ideas, challenge definitions, and touch the heart in an unexpected way. We celebrate the collaborative spirit in developing productions that are pertinent for today’s ‘global’ and rapidly changing world.

New York City is full of people from vastly different backgrounds, on the move and unheard. We give voice to those who are very much a part of our world, but whose stories often go untold. We seek to involve these diverse voices in our play selection, our programs and internships, in our artistic, production, and volunteer staffs, and in our audience.

Current Work
Two New Zealand plays in US Premieres - SKIN TIGHT by Gary Henderson (April, 2006) and CHERISH by Ken Duncam (June) as well as a fall revival of Sam Shepard's BURIED CHILD.
History
Our works encompass a variety of themes and are company-generated (the all-women 'Displaced'); multi-ethnic, gender, and ability revivals ('To Kill a Mockingbird,' '1984,' and 'Ordinary People'); or newer avant-garde works ('Murder of Crows,' 'The Swan,' and 'In Perpetuity Throughout the Universe'). 60% of our shows are by women, our founders are women, we support young and elderly interns, painters, train female sign language interpreters and make a home for differently abled artists in our company.
