Mission Statement: Perhaps one of the most intriguing bands in the North Carolina Triangle area, Viva la Venus delivers a 1-2 punch to the rock scene.

The foundation of VLV's music is forged from three talented women, Wendy Brancaccio, Susan Darney, and Mary Anne Barckhoff. These ladies write lyrics that are driven by introspection and emotion, broaching issues of self-control, anger, and determination. Yet, they still have a good time through it all.

Their songwriting approach combines the band's many influences using powerfully seductive vocal harmonies, intricate guitar work, melodic bass lines, and rock-solid drumming.

Whether singing tales of infidelity in their song, "Break," or wailing out a tongue-in-cheek recipe of life in "Meat Loaf Night," the lyrics are heartfelt and real. Their diverse, original music has been described as sounding like Elastica, The Ramones, Heart, and even a female-oriented Foo Fighters.

Current Work
The debut CD release, The Never Ending Mending Story (Shiny Pants Records 2001), has received wide critical acclaim and has been in rotation on various radio stations, including WBZB 1090AM, WKNC 88.1FM, and WXYC 89.3FM. The band received national recognition when the track, "Mystery," was featured in two episodes of the cable TV series, "Strong Medicine," on Lifetime Network.
History
Since the late 1990's, Viva la Venus has been performing on the East coast club circuit and has performed at various art/music festivals and charity events including GoGirls MusicFest, Mayfest, Women of Western NC Arts Festival, Third Mind Collective events, among many others.

The band was originally formed by Wendy and Susan under the name Venus Envy. Their early shows used such antics as a drum machine with an inflatable sex doll in place of a drummer. Soon afterwards, the sound canvas was further explored when Mary Anne added her excellent guitar skills, trading bass duties with Susan and contributing songs of her own.

After a name change in 2000 and a stint with various drummers, the addition of Trey's expert drumming solidified the lineup.

Currently the band is focused on touring, promoting the band, meeting fans, and writing new material.
