General
Information
The main goals of the WomenArts Network are to make it easy to
get basic information about women artists and to contact them. When
you do a search, you will first see thumbnail profiles of the artists who
match your search criteria. If you click on any artist's picture or
name in the thumbnail profile, you will see her full profile page.
You will notice at the top of each profile page, that you can click on a
link to send the artist an email. If she has a website, there will
be a link to that under her email address. There may be small icons
next to the website link. If there is a camera, it means there are
photos of the artist's work on her website; if there is a microphone, it
means there are audio clips; and if there is a video camera, it means there
are video clips.
Choose the criteria for your search by typing words in the WomenArts
Network Search box found in the left margin of any page on the site, or
use as many fields as you want on the Advanced Search form. If you
want to search on more than one item from a single list on the Advanced
Search form, hold down the control key on your keyboard while you click
the items you want.
Please note that the searches only check
the main profile page of each artist. They do not search for words
in the resume or review excerpts sections of the profiles.

Searching
by Typing Words in the WomenArts Network Search Box
When you search by typing words in the WomenArts Network Search Box, the
program will give you the profiles of any artists or organizations who used
your search words anywhere in the text on their main profile page.
The searches done through the WomenArts Network Search boxes are not limited
to the keywords that the artists list at the bottom of their profile pages.
We ask the artists to enter keywords related to their work in addition to
their regular text in order to increase your chances of finding them.
If you are trying to locate all of the artists in a particular state or
states, it is better to do your search by clicking on the state(s) in the
state field of the Advanced Search form. If you type in the name of
a state in the WomenArts Network Search box, it will find anyone who mentions
the full name of that state in their profile, whether or not they live there.
If you search using the state field, it will only return the profiles of
people who listed that state in their address. Back

Searching
with the Keyword Search Box on the Advanced Search Page
The Keyword box on the Advanced Search page works the same
as the WomenArts Network Search box described above. Back

Searching
by Themes
We recommend that you search for profiles by theme in addition
to keywords. The artists may not have entered the exact keyword you
are searching for, but you may be able to find them by searching on a more
general theme.
We realize that the list of themes is not all-inclusive. If you have
a suggestion for a general theme that you think we should include, please
write to us at website@womenarts.org.

Searching
by Art Forms or Type of Artist
We realize that the list of Art Forms and Type of Artists is not all-inclusive.
If you don't find what you need in our lists, try doing a search on the
art form or type of artist you want using a WomenArts Network Search Box.
If you have a suggestion for an art form or type of artist that you think
we should include, please write to us at website@womenarts.org.
We will add items to the lists if enough people contact us. Back

Searching
by Artist or Organization Name
If you don't know the artist's or organization's full name, try typing in
part of it. For instance, if you typed in "Smith", you would
get all of the artists and organizations whose names include "Smith".
You can click on the box under the Artist or Organization Name box if you
want to limit your search to "Individuals Only" or "Organizations
Only". If you do not indicate a preference, the program will
search for both individuals and organizations that match your criteria.

Searching
by City or State
If you are trying to locate all of the artists in a particular city or state,
it is better to do your search using the city and state fields of the Advanced
Search form instead of typing the name of the city or state in the WomenArts
Network Search Box.
The WomenArts Network Search Box will find anyone who mentions
the full name of that state in their profile, whether or not they still
live there. Also, it may not return all of the artists who live in
the state, since the program converts their state name to the two letter
postal abbreviations in their profiles. However, if you search using
the city or state fields on the Advanced Search form, the program will return
the correct list of profiles of people who listed those locations in their
addresses. Back to Top>>
Match
Any and Match All
If you do not click either of these buttons, the program will search for
the profiles of artists that match any of your criteria, i.e. the default
mode is "Match Any." This means that if you clicked the
theme "Intergenerational" and the state "Massachusetts",
the program will find any artists working on intergenerational themes and
any artists living in Massachusetts.
If you want to limit your search to artists or organizations that meet all
of your criteria (for instance, only artists are both working on
Intergenerational themes and living in Massachusetts), then click
on Match All before you do your search. Back
