Adjusting the Cookie Settings in Your Browser

Is This What Happened?

You tried to create an account but you got a message saying that you needed to adjust the cookie settings in your browser before you could edit your profile.

Here Is How to Fix This Problem

This problem is easy to fix - it involves a simple adjustment to one of the security settings in your browser software related to "cookies."  Make the changes below and then you will be able to continue editing your profile. If the changes below do not solve your problem, please Contact Us>>

Please note:  You do not need to create a new user name and password after you make the adjustment below.  If you need to log off of the WomenArts Network before you make the changes in your browser settings, you should be able to log back in to the WomenArts Network using the "Returning User" log in boxes and entering the user name and password that you originally selected.

Adjusting the "Cookie" Settings on Your Internet Browser

The WomenArts Network program needs to store a small text file called a "cookie" on your computer during your editing sessions in order to keep track of your entries.  The security on your browser software may be set so that it will not allow cookies to be stored on your computer.  Cookies are often blocked when you set your security to high levels.  If the WomenArts Network program discovers that it cannot store the cookie file that it needs, it will stop working and take you back to the WomenArts Network overview page.

You can leave your security settings on high levels, but you need to tell your Internet browser program that it is all right to accept cookies from the WomenArts Network.  If you are using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, here is what you need to do:

In Internet Explorer 6 on Windows:

  • Click on "Tools" in the menu bar across the top of the page, and then select "Internet Options" from the menu that appears.
  • In the window that pops up, choose the tab labeled 'Privacy', and in the section labeled 'Web Sites', click the 'Edit' button.
  • In the box labeled "Address of Web Site", enter "www.womenarts.org" and then click the "Allow" button. This will tell the browser to always allow cookies from www.womenarts.org, regardless of the browser's other cookie settings.

In Netscape Navigator 7:

  • Click on "Edit" in the menu bar across the top of the page, and then select "Preferences"
  • In the category menu on the left click on the arrow next to"Privacy & Security" and
then click on "Cookies" in the menu that opens up.
  • Click the button labeled "Enable cookies for the originating web site only", and then click "OK".
