Chicago Dramatists 10-Minute Workshop: “A Life-Changing Event” (November 7, 2009, Chicago, IL) – Seeking 10-minute plays and 10-minute scenes excerpted from longer works on the theme of “A life-changing event” for staged reading and audience discussion moderated by Michael Menendian, Artistic Director of Raven Theatre Company. Connecticut Heritage Productions Connecticut Stories on Stage Playwriting Competition – Fosters the development of new works by local playwrights. Open to Connecticut residents only (students attending school in Connecticut are eligible). Seeking plays that are set in Connecticut and/or that deal with a Connecticut-related topic or personality in the past, present, or future. The competition is divided into three categories: ten-minute plays, one-acts (20-90 minutes), and full-lengths (90 minute minimum). Playwrights may submit up to one play in each category. Reva Shiner Play Contest at The Bloomington Playwrights Project – Rewards an unproduced, unpublished full-length (75-150 minutes) play with a $500 cash prize and a full production as part of the theatre’s season. Universal Theatre Festival (January 21-24, Provincetown, MA) – Held at the historic UU Meeting House. Seeking 10-minute plays (10 pages maximum) or monologues (5 pages maximum) in any genre. Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival One-Act Play Contest (March 24-28, 2010 and March 30-April 3, 2011, New Orleans, LA) – Seeking one-act plays (no longer than one hour) that have not been previously produced, published, or performed, including a formal staged reading (workshop readings ok). Production criteria include scripts requiring minimal technical support for a 100-seat theater. Casts of characters must be small, and it is suggested that characters range in age from approximately 20 through 40 years old. Play content is NOT limited to Tennessee Williams or New Orleans-related themes. Playwright's name should not appear in the script. Send two title pages with the text: one affixed to the script with the play's title only, another unattached with play title and name, address, phone number, and email of playwright. Top ten finalists will be published on festival website and will receive complementary passes to attend the 2010 Festival.
