**Tennessee Women’s Theater Project’s Women’s Work Festival** (May 9-25, 2008, Nashville, TN) - Showcasing the talents of creative women at Nashville’s Z. Alexander Looby Theatre. Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab – A New York opportunity, exploring and developing work of new generation of theatre artists and fostering collaborations between writers and directors in beginning stages of creative process. Lab meets on alternate weeks from October-April, with writers bringing in work 3 times during 6-month cycle. At each meeting, Lab members read the plays aloud, with writers and director serving as actors, then together discuss the work. Youth Theater Musical Theater Productions (New York, NY) – TADA! commissions musicals for its Resident Youth Ensemble, ages 8-18 – musicals that entertain and inspire without being condescending or childish. Joyce Foundation Awards – Grants of $50,000 to enable Midwestern cultural institutions to support creation and production of new works of theatre, dance, music, or visual arts by artists of color. Theatre category supports the commission and performance of a new play. Projects should include substantive community engagement efforts. VSA arts of Massachusetts ADA Cultural Access Initiative Grants – Matching grants of up to $5,000 for nonprofit Massachusetts organizations proposing innovative ways to include artists with disabilities and to attract audiences including people with disabilities. Programs are intended to be accessible and to reflect universal design principles. They may include staff development, audience development, and access services like sign interpretation, captioning, assistive listening, and audio description, but only programs substantially involving people with disabilities are eligible. TCG’s American Theatre National Theatre Criticism/Affiliated Writers Program – Opportunity for New York City and Minnesota residents only (applications from NYC-adjacent neighborhoods in New Jersey accepted). This awards program of the Theatre Communications Group (TCG), supported by the Jerome Foundation, stimulates high-quality cultural reporting, feature writing, and theatre criticism that breaks past its own boundaries. Winners receive $3,000 to write 3-4 feature articles for American Theatre over the course of a year. Travel expenses for agreed-upon projects also covered. P73 Playwriting Fellowship (Brooklyn, NY) – Providing year-long comprehensive support to one early-career playwright who has received neither wide public recognition nor substantial production opportunities in New York City. Fellow receives cash stipend plus additional funds to cover expenses for research, workshop, and reading presentations. Fellowship year, which runs from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2009, includes at least one public presentation of a new play. VSA arts’ Teaching Artist Fellowship Program - Identifying, engaging, and supporting teaching artists with disabilities in the visual and performing arts. MetLife/TCG A-Ha! Program – A program for theatres that are members in good standing with the Theatre Communications Group (TCG), A-Ha! supports creative thinking and action in two ways: Think It grants (up to $25,000) give theatre professionals the time and space for research and development, and Do It grants (up to $50,000) support the implementation and testing of new ideas. Dana Foundation Arts Education Rural Initiative – Arts education organizations may apply for a 1- or 2-year grant to support professional development projects leading to improved teaching of the performing arts in public schools in U.S. rural communities. Grant size varies, up to $50,000. Projects should be aimed at professional artists teaching performing arts in the public schools and in-school art specialists who are permanent school staff and teach performing arts as primary area of instruction. Mid-America Arts Alliance Latino Culture Project - Grants of up to $3,000 to help nonprofit arts presenters find connection points to Latino populations in their communities and educate their existing audiences about Latino culture. Applicant organization must be located in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, or Texas. Eligible projects must occur between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009; include at least one performance open to and promoted to the general public; and feature a professional performing artist/ensemble that is Latino or of Latino descent. Artist/ensemble must reside outside applicant’s state and metropolitan area. Application must be received 60 days prior to start of project.
